DEXA has been the standard for measuring bone density for years. It's widely used, but it has its limitations in terms of detectability and variability. However, a new technology is changing the game.
The REMS test offers a detailed, radiation-free analysis of your bone density and fragility, surpassing traditional DEXA scans in several key ways:
An Echolight REMS (radiofrequency echographic multi-spectrometry) scan is used to evaluate bone density, structural deformations, and other tissues in the body. Unlike standard ultrasound devices that are only capable of measuring soft tissues effectively, the addition of targeted radiofrequency allows the REMS system to accurately evaluate dense structures such as bone with an incredible degree of accuracy.
If you are at risk for osteoporosis, an Echolight EchoS examination is an essential first step for you to keep your bones strong and healthy.
Here are 9 things Echolight can do for you:
1. Assess your bone health without harmful ionizing radiation.
2. Produce an automated report within several minutes.
3. Determine precise and correct bone health data.
4. Analyze brand-new bone health information - the Fragility Score.
5. Help clinicians give you more accurate fracture risk assessments.
6. Allow for early detection and diagnosis of low bone density and osteoporosis.
7. Allow you to take a more proactive approach to bone health.
8. Predict fragility fractures for women and parents with type 2 diabetes or other risk factors.
9. Help in pre-operative bone assessment prior to joint replacement or spine fusion surgery.
Because REMS analyzes raw unfiltered ultrasound signals, it recognizes even the smallest bone tissue details, deriving the most precise BMD measurements and bone quality measurements. And, in several minutes, the Echolight EchoS produces all the results needed to properly analyze bone health and diagnose osteoporosis for your medical provider.
Unlike DEXA technology, Echolight doesn't use ionizing radiation (X-rays) to analyze bone density. Another issue with DEXA scans is the significant error rate associated with the completion and interpretation of the scan. REMS analyzes raw unfiltered ultrasound signals, recognizing even the smallest bone tissue details.
Ultimately, Echolight REMS technology is safer, more accessible, and appropriate for any gender or medical condition. Although safe for all ages, we cannot perform scans for individuals under the age of 21 at this time.
1: Please arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment time. The schedule is tight and accommodation for late arrivals is not guaranteed.
2: Empty your bladder or bowels before being called to the exam room.
Arriving 15 minutes early will give you plenty of time to address bathroom calls.
3: Bring a towel or yoga mat. Your personal towel or yoga mat will be placed on the exam table. You will be lying on your personal towel or yoga mat. Why? We are doing our best to minimize medical waste. Use of paper sheets over the table creates unnecessary waste during the REMS exam.
4: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Your abdomen will be exposed to perform the exam for the lumbar spine. To perform the exam for the hip, your upper thigh will need to be exposed. You will be asked to bring your pants to mid-thigh to access the inguinal crease. Please wear underwear.
5: Avoid eating a meal or drinking 2-3 hours prior to your exam. Gas in the intestines will interfere with the lumbar spine exam.
1: You will be asked to lay face up on an exam table. A pillow will be provided.
2: Your lumbar spine is the first region to be scanned. You will be asked to
roll up your shirt to the bottom of your strenum and roll down your pants or shorts just below your belly button. This scan can take up to 10 minutes and may require
multiple passes to insure an accurate reading.
3: The session will continue with a scan of your femoral neck (the tip of your femur.) You will be asked roll up your shorts to the crease of your groin or
remove your pants just below the crown of your thigh.
4. In both instances a water soluble ultrasound gel will be applied to the area being scanned. The technician will direct the ultrasound transducer along the region being scanned until an accurate reading is achieved.
5. A full password protected PDF report of your evaluation will be sent to the email provided on your intake form.
